August 29: Demo Day!

Today two men came to our house and tore out the tile on two sides of our shower on the main floor. It was a little tricky having one of us here, but Ryan kindly made arrangements to work from home and therefore got to know Adan and Fernando. He said they were very kind, careful and skilled. And enjoyed hearing Ryan practice his Spanish. The plumber informed us that we needed to clear out some large and plaster and move stuff out of his way in the 3D printing room so he could get to the crawl space. So Ryan and the boys did that while I made dinner this evening. And we were able to open the crawl space for the first time since we’ve lived here—7 years almost. It was amazing. dirt, old telephone wires, a glass bottle, pipes, a shoe, and you can see all the way to the front porch. Strange to think about the last time someone looked in there. And how old is that bottle and the shoe? Our home is 104 years old. Who knows?!  In order to tear out the tile and demo things in the bathroom  Fernando and Adan had to move our Diego tire and create a cardboard walkway so as to not track dust and debris on our wood floors or carpets. They moved the dining room table, the couches and the rugs. I got home and first of all just thought the house seemed so open and flowed so well. I love how demolition brings new ideas and newness. Every act of creation is an act of destruction. Or vice versa. The metaphor of the phoenix comes to mind. I love those magical birds!! Our home will rise from the dust and ashes and become more what we need at this point in our lives. We can be faithful stewards and love it. So grateful.
