Teacher Work Days!
Our school is known in these parts for having a millions days off. Now that I'm not working at the library, I really like that. Today is a teacher work day, giving us an extra long weekend. It feels good still being in my pajamas at 9:23am, and the boys are dressed, and they've eaten breakfast, but they are happily playing Zelda right now. I love that they have each other and that they really like playing together.
This morning at 5:23 my neighbor and the lady I visit teach texted me to see if I knew anyone who could help fix her car. When she woke up she had a huge oil leak that needed to be fixed immediately. I saw her text at about 7:23 when I put on my watch (my phone is still not showing anything on the screen unless you hold it an an angle in direct sunlight or flashlight). I quickly texted her back, and then posted something on Facebook on our relief society page and mentioned that we knew the owners of AB Hadley and they were usually good and didn't charge very much.
She called me about ten minutes ago to let me know that AB Hadley had looked at her car and fixed it and wasn't going to charge her anything. She was really grateful and kind and appreciative and I felt so darn happy that I could help her. She used to come to church pretty regularly. And then her kids got older and stopped wanting to come, and her job changed and it was hard to get to church. But we still visit taught her...dropped off stuff mostly, but almost every month. And we always ask if she needs anything. And she always says no....until this morning! I'm so glad the church has the visiting and home teaching programs and I'm so glad I can be a part of it. And I'm glad that imperfect as I am as a visiting teacher, Heavenly Father can still use me to bless and help others.
I love my ward and my neighbors and my visiting teaching ladies. I'm also really grateful for my mom's example. She is an amazing visiting teacher. It means a lot to her, and the ladies she visits. They become part of her life in a very real way. And Grammy Rees was a good one too! I come from a line of good visiting teachers! That is pretty cool to write! I want to keep up the legacy!
